No less than a decade ago, world lea ders were concerned about equitable access to the Internet. The issue became known as the “digital divide” . The term was thrown about so often it became cliché to those of us in the world of education. Fast-forw ard ten years and “digital divide” has a very different meaning. The high degree of technology , power, and ubiquity of cell phones is turning our world upside ...

On our drive home together after hearing Alan November speak at a conference in Williamsbu rg, Virginia, my colleague said, "Those English teachers need to start using their digital projectors . I'm going in to their next department meeting and tell them that they have to use PowerPoint s. That's a start!" It's not a start. If I sit in on one more teacher observatio n watching students' eyes glaze over as the teacher clicks from one slide to the next, I'm going to cry. ...

As a retired teacher myself, I know how little time there really is in a day. You have so much to do during class, then you have to prepare and you have to follow up. You need to stay on top of new technology , continue eduction and follow trends. If there were 26 hours in a day I would still not have enough time. lolI now work at encouragin g young readers through new technology . I met Robert Kenny and Glenda Gunter from UCF a couple of years ago and recently we've bee ...

Trending online multimedia and encouragin g reading.L ately I've seen a dramatic increase in the number of comments left on book trailers by young readers. Part of it, I think, can be attributed to the huge success of the movie Twilight, but some of these readers are much younger that that target audience. Pendragon seems to be getting a good number of comments from young readers, maybe because the trailer includes segments of kids talking about the book. But what's gr ...
