Help

Q: Is this service really free?

A: Yes, completely free. No strings attached.

Q: Why does the video keep stopping and starting during play?

A: If a video does not play continuously, it may be due to your connection speed. You'll need a broadband connection with at least 500+ Kbps for the best viewing and uploading experience.
It's also possible that TeacherTube servers are experiencing high traffic, which sometimes affects the speed. If this is the case, there's not much you can do, but we are continuously adding server space to keep up with demand. Thanks for your patience with us as we continue to grow.

Q: Can my video be more than 100MB or longer than 10 minutes?

A: Yes. Just remember to set your computer's screen saver and/or sleep mode to 1 hour(recommended) or more. If your video does not properly upload, try to edit your video into two parts: EX: Math Part I - Math Part II.

Q: Having trouble uploading?

A: TeacherTube Upload has an Unlimited MB maximum file size which, at typical video compression rates, should be around 15 minutes long or roughly 9 seconds per 1 MB. If your file is larger than 100MB and still under 15 minutes then you should open it in your video editing software and export it to a new, compressed file with one of our accepted formats and a higher compression setting. An example of this from a TeacherTube User experience that had a video file which started out at 3 gigabytes. After rendering in Final Cut Pro Software Program it was reduced down to 65 MB, and uploaded to TeacherTube with no problem.

Q: My upload's been running a long time and hasn't completed or it Timed Out. What should I do? A: Uploading a video can take several minutes, depending on the length of your video and the demand on the servers. If your video upload is taking longer than 30 mintues to complete, we recommend canceling the upload, checking the length and settings for your video, and uploading it again. You can also try two options:

OPTION 1: Please make sure any firewall software you may have is allowing the connection to our server. If you're on a corporate or school network the connection may be blocked. You might want to check with your network administrator to find out what restrictions your network's under.You'll need a broadband connection with at least 500+ Kbps for the best viewing and uploading experience.

OPTION 2: For larger files, you can make your video file smaller in size by compressing your video using this Video Converter (WM VIDEO CONVERTER). The best video conversion files to convert to are Flash .FLV Video Files or Apple MPEG-4 .MP4 Video Files. This will help tremendously if you do not want to wait a long time for the upload progress.

Q: Can my video be embeded on WIKI websites?

A: Yes. Right click on this link and select Save As ( teachertube.php ), and then add the following to config.php:

include_once("$FarmD/cookbook/teachertube.php");

Put in the unique ID for the movie, not the whole URL, something like (:teachertube 7f89ddbebc2ac9128303:).

Q: How can I embed a video for my Edublogs/WordPress blog?

A: Here are some steps:

1. Copy link provided under "Edublogs/WordPress Embeddable:" within the selected video viewing page.
2. Go to your Edublogs/WordPress "edit" page.
3. Select "Code".
4. Select "Media".
5. Paste the url that you copied from TeacherTube and press OK.

That's it! Contact us if you need help.

Note: TeacherTube provides the ability to embed videos to your website/blog for personal or classroom educational use only, provided you give a link back to TeacherTube in any presentation, website, or other form of media in which the embedded video is included and give credit to the author of the video.

Q: What kind of videos can I upload?

A: You may upload any kind of personal educational video that you'd like to share with the world. However, it must address specific learning objectives and/or provide professional development for educators. Videos may not post advertisements or solicitations of business. We also don't allow any nudity or profanity and your video must be appropriate for all audiences.

However, this still leaves a lot of room for creativity!! Do you need to find a video on a subject such as math or history?

These are just some examples of the videos that our users are uploading.

Q: What Video file formats can I upload?

A: TeacherTube accepts video files in the WMV, .AVI, .MOV, .MPG, .MP4 and .FLV file formats.

Q: What's the best format to upload for high quality?

A: We recommend the following settings:

    * MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
    * 320x240 resolution
    * MP3 audio
    * 30 frames per second

Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your videos look better on TeacherTube. Remember if you do not see your file extension listed, you can convert any of your files for free at ZamZar.com.

Q: What Support file formats can I upload?

A: TeacherTube accepts support files in the .doc, .ppt, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, .csv, .xls, .mp3, .wav, .kmz, .swf, .zip and .gsp file formats.

Q: How can I improve my videos?

A: We encourage you to make and edit your videos with software such as CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software (Ex. TeacherTube Tutorials are made with CamStudio), Windows MovieMaker (included with every Windows installation), or Apple iMovie. Using these programs you can easily edit your videos, add soundtracks, etc.

Q: What is your policy on copyright infringement?

A: TeacherTube respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and is only accepting video uploads from persons who hold all necessary rights to the uploaded material. Our policy is to respond to any notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If we receive a notice or otherwise have reason to believe that content you submitted infringes another party's copyright, your account may be terminated and the video removed from TeacherTube.

Q: It keeps asking me to log in, what should I do?

A: Make sure you have cookies enabled.

Q: What are 'tags'?

A: Tags are basically keywords that describe your videos. Like, if you have a math video, you might choose to tag it with 'math,' 'fraction' and 'equations.' Other users that enjoy watching math videos can then search for 'math' and your video will pop up in their search results.

Q: How do I remove a video?

A: To remove one of your videos, simply go to My Videos Page. Click on the 'remove video' button next to the video you'd like to remove.

Q: Is there a limit to how much I can upload?

A: We don't have any limit for the number of videos you upload, and we don't foresee adding a ceiling anytime in the future. So, get crankin' and upload as many videos as you'd like - its more content for the TeacherTube community to enjoy!

Q: How do I embed videos on my MySpace/Friendster profile?!?

A: Simply copy and paste the Embeded URL on the video page and embed your videos on Friendster/MySpace/eBay/blogs.

Q: Videos won't play, what's wrong?

A: Please make sure you have the latest version on Macromedia Flash installed on your computer. To download it, please visit: http://www.macromedia.com

Q: How long do my videos stay on TeacherTube?

A: Currently, we do not have any time limits or expirations on videos.

Q: How can I prevent other users from seeing my email address?

A: Rest assured, TeacherTube never displays your personal email address, nor is your email address ever displayed when another user sends you a message through the site. The only personal information a user will see about you is what you post on your profile page, as well as the public videos you upload.

Q: Can you make videos autoplay?

A: Yes, you can autoplay movies!

You know how there's that embeddable source that's shown at the bottom of every video, like:

Basically, if you replace false with true where &autostart=false so it looks like this:

That should make the video automatically start playing.

Q: How do I report copyright infringement?

A: If you believe that someone else has uploaded your copyrighted content without your permission, we encourage you to contact that person in order to resolve any differences with them directly. You can also contact our support team using this form for instructions on how to submit a copyright infringement notice to TeacherTube.

Q: What if I have been falsely accused of copyright infringement?

A: We'll let you know if we receive a copyright complaint about any of your video content that is hosted on TeacherTube. We'll give you the opportunity to respond appropriately.

Q: What are you doing to prevent content that violates your policies from appearing in TeacherTube?

A: We do a preliminary review on uploaded videos through both a manual and automated process. Although we try our best to detect and remove videos that violate our policy guidelines, our review process is primarily focused on removing adult content or obvious copyright violations, and is not bulletproof. However, we encourage our viewers to notify us when they discover policy violations or copyright issues -- we have a process for reviewing reported policy violations, and respond to reported copyright violations under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Q: What is this .MSWMM file? How do I create a movie with Windows Movie Maker?

A: A .MSWMM file is a Windows Movie Maker Project file. By saving the project, it allows you to return to the movide and make modifications at a later time. However, if you're satisfied with the movie and would like to upload and share the result through TeacherTube, you will need to choose the "Save Movie File" option under the "File" menu (which is different from "Save Project" that creates the .MSWMM file).

Q: How can I download a video for external use?

A: Here are some steps:

1. Click the title link in the Download Video section on the video page.
2. Save the .flv file to your desktop or selected folder of your choice.
3. Once downloaded you can go to ZamZar.com to convert the .flv file to any file extension of your choice. Another option is to download this Free FLVplayer to easily drag and drop the file into the player.

Note: TeacherTube provides the ability to download videos to your computer for personal or classroom educational use only, provided you give a link back to TeacherTube in any presentation, website, or other form of media in which the downloaded video is included and give credit to the author of the video.

Q: How can I download a video for external use (Mac & Linux Users)?

A: For Mac & Linux Users it is best to use Mozilla FireFox internet browser. To download a Free copy, Click Here.

Also a suggestion by one of our Mac User Members, another option to convert files using a Mac is VisualHub. This program is a universal video converter for Mac. Click Here.
