Well, let me clear that up for you real quick. Social media refers to websites and applications that enable users to create share content or to participate in social networking. Now that we know exactly what social media is, let's talk about the different types of social media and how they're different. The first social media site I'd like to talk to you about today is Facebook. Facebook is a social networking site where users can create profiles, upload photos and videos, send messages, and keep in touch with family, Friends, and colleagues. Facebook is one of the most widely used social networking sites. So at the minimum, all businesses should have a Facebook page. If you're looking to generate more brand awareness. Next up, we have Twitter. Twitter is a social networking service where users can send and read messages that are a 140 characters called tweets. Users must be registered to send tweets. But anyone can read them. Twitter strength lies in posting info in real time. So any business dealing within the moment updates such as news organizations or sports related content should be incorporating Twitter into their marketing effort. Well, only about 7% of the Americans are using Twitter. They are more likely to follow brands and companies and check their Twitter feed frequently during the day. The next media platform I like to talk to you about today is a LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a business oriented social networking service used to build connections and professional relationships. Because of all the professional nature of the site, LinkedIn is especially popular among college graduates and employed people. All professional businesses and three minutes marketers should be using LinkedIn. This is not a site where users check daily. So the effort needed to maintain a presence is less in other platforms. Next social media service I for today is called Pinterest. Pinterest is a content sharing service that allows members to pin a post photos and videos to the pin boards. Pinterest is best for companies with rich images to tell their story. For example, any industry in the hospitality, travel, to your decorating, and Eddie wedding related services are best used for Pinterest. Keep in mind, Pinterest's audience is predominant female. So any company that is targeting more female related audience should be using Pinterest. Finally, the last social networking service I have for you today is called Instagram. Instagram is an online mobile video and photo sharing networking service. Photos and videos posted on Instagram can be shared on several other networking platforms, such as Facebook. Image friendly businesses such as restaurants and clothing retailers should be using Instagram.
