This video gives the directions, materials, samples, and vision of a Scoot System. This is an engineering design, hands-on activity for middle school students. The students pair up to problem solve the task of helping a marble get out of a shoebox. The students are constantly improving their technology. It takes about 3 class periods to complete and introduces to middle school students the concept of gravity, motion, acceleration, force, incline, etc. It is a great way to motivate students before starting a unit on motion and forces in physical science. It costs nothing except masking tape. The students bring their own shoeboxes and then design their track for the challenge.
