This video, from the Central MA STEM Network, highlights positive STEM experiences that allow students to sample what it is like to do the work of a STEM professional while still in middle school. Research shows that the middle school years are pivotal for students. It is at that time that students begin to decide what they do not want to consider for their lifes work. The video shows students engaged in the following activities: designing wacky shoes using the engineering design process at Camp Reach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, isolating DNA from an onion at the laboratory at the Regional Science Resource Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, explaining original research at the Massachusetts State Middle School Science and Engineering Fair and visiting the EcoTarium and interviewing a STEM professional.
