This is me, Mr. O, on a borrowed Segway. A very generous man loaned it to me for about 2 months. It was a super hit with the students, to say the least! I have been riding a little "scooter" here at school for about 10 years now. I'm always in a hurry to get to the front office, library, or conference, and it gets me around pretty well. It's one of the little aluminum Razor scooters from Wal-Mart. It's a lot of fun, and the students here at Ransom have always responded well to a teacher scooting down the hall. I have even heard some of the 6th graders (who do know me yet) say things like, "Hey! There's the scooter dude!” When Dean Kamen, the inventor and founder of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), announced the arrival of the first self-balancing, zero emissions personal transport vehicle in 2001, I knew that someday, somehow I would have one here at school. There is so much science built into the Segway that I believe it represents the premiere teaching tool of today. Thanks Bill and Patsy!! Less
