Description: Ivanhoe Primary School wanted to show the feelings and the energy behind Kindness as a virtue in a unique way and what better way than to do that from the sky. All 600 students and their teachers choreographed the eight letters of the work kindness and asked their principal to charge the batteries of their drone and take to the skies to capture the love. This short movie was the result.
Description: On Innovation Day you saw students redefining the content of what they are learning through meaningful problem solving and developing creative solutions to complicated tasks.
Traditionally schools have given the students the problem and solutions to work through or a formula to solve it.
We want our students to create and add value to their education by identifying problems worth solving and then collaborate to explore creative solutions.

I was fortunate enough to be in the multipurpose room taking some footage of the Year 5 and year 6 Archibald entries when one of the foundation classes arrived to examine the artworks and vote. Here’s the way they went about it. They certainly took their role very seriously.

Last Wednesday around 60 students from Foundation to Grade 3 travelled to the Distance Education Centre in Thornbury where students listened to the story “I got this Hat” and participated in some activities relating to the story. It was an exciting opportunity for students to participate in a literacy lesson conducted outside of the traditional classroom setting and work with different teachers and students.
At the same time back at Ivanhoe Primary School classes were to log into the live stream of the event and participate online. We had some success and other classes improvised coming up with their own activities. Here is 1/2O using digital learning technologies to showcase their work.

Description: Do you ever wonder what goes on during Curriculum Days? This Curriculum Day focused on teaching and learning with digital technologies. We got to experiment with a variety of programs and applications some of which your children will be using at school over the course of the year. Many of these things are made possible with the generous support of the school community. Description: A number of Year 3 students were keen to make a difference to the school. They identified a number of areas for improvement and settled on a goal of raising enough money to buy a book for the school library. They submitted their plan to the principal and managed their own marketing. Well done girls we will make sure your name goes inside the book to recognise your work. Thank you.
Description: Skoolaborate is a partnership that allows like-minded schools (innovative, creative, future thinking) an opportunity to transform teaching and learning within their schools by exploring blended learning opportunities.
Research suggests that blended and online learning offer greater results in areas such as test scores, retention and discipline. This project aims to take advantage of those positive outcomes.
It also allows partner schools the opportunity to explore options around increasing student attendance and expanding academic offerings via online delivery and participation externally.
A Skoolaborate partnership can expand what each school can offer as a single entity. It also creates collaborative staff and independent students that will lead to improved outcomes for all students.
By participating in the partnership each school will be up skilling their teaching workforce with the skills and standards that will be expected in 21st century teaching.
Staff will become competent in the use of internet technologies for the delivery of educational experiences using 21st century pedagogy. They will also develop the processes and procedures necessary to work with students who attend both physically and from a distance.

My friend Heather has a son with autism and on seeing this video said the following.
"Its why they stim and check out its sensory overload at all times. Malls are bad for us after about 45mins. I remember when we couldnt go to shoppers drug mart because of the florescent lights when he was little he would absolutely lose it. He'd scream and throw himself down and id have to grab what i needed hold him restrain him whatever i had to do to keep my spot in line. Get back to car and wait till it stopped so i could put him in carseat and calm us both down enough so i could drive."
Makes you think doesn't it.
Description: I am very pleased to announce that the Minister for Education’s office has approved a funding allocation of $2,000,000 to Ivanhoe Primary School to replace some relocatable classrooms and minor refurbishments to buildings in poor condition.
The Minister was clearly impressed by the quality of the educational programs he saw and agreed that improvements to the learning spaces were necessary.
I would like to thank our teachers and School Council president who joined with me on the Minister’s tour of the school to take a closer look at our facilities. The Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, James Merlino was particularly impressed with the calibre of our student House Captains who were able to clearly articulate a student voice that was representative of our school. I am quite certain that the sit down discussion between the Minister and the students contributed to this very favourable outcome.
