This is a video to introduce subtraction to Kindergarten students.
Hello everyone! Today we’re going to do a lesson on subtraction. Before we start doing our lesson we’re gonna talk about some words that also mean the same as taking away. We have difference, less, subtract, leave, minus, take away, and of course subtraction. These are all the same words that mean the same concept that we’re gonna be talking about today – subtraction.<br>
Let’s take a look at our problem. Our problem says, 10 minus 2. What do we do? We’ll the first thing we need to do is draw ten circles. Now, after we draw our ten circles, we’re going to want to write the numbers underneath each circle – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. That’s us double-checking to make sure we’ve drawn the correct number of circles.<br>
After we’ve drawn ten circles, we wanna take a look at what we’re taking away. Here on our equation it says, 10 minus 2. So, we’re taking two away from ten. So, we’re going to want to x out two of the last circles, so that way we don’t get confused on our numbers. So, my first one that I’m gonna x out is 10. The next on is 9. As you can see I have two x’s that represent my minus 2 in my equation. Now, I’m going to count to see how many I have left over – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. That’s right! When I take two away from ten, I get the number 8.<br>
Now, I make sure that I put my 8 after the equals sign in my equation. Also, don’t forget to always double check your work. Make sure you show your work, and make sure you’re doing the best you can. Have a wonderful evening!<br>
