In this video you will learn how to read and write words with suffix -s.

Hi! Ms. Peters here with how do we read and write suffixes with Fundations.
First of all I?m gonna start with how we read it and tap it. So, our example is this word right here. How your students would tap this is our diagraph gets one tap, [sh], [i], [p], ship, ships. When we go to read a word with a suffix, we?re always gonna read the base word first and then the whole word.
Another example we could use, we're going to tap with [b], [u], [g], bug, bugs. And you know here that the S makes a z sound. We learned this in unit six that suffix S can sound like [s] like snake, but can also say a [z] like as in bugs.
If we are going to write this word, what I have your student say first to me if we?re gonna write it, if we?re gonna do dictation like what we do for homework, that you would tell them the word is ships. They will repeat ships and then they?d say just the base word ship because we never tap out the suffix. So, for writing they would say [sh], [i], [p], S-H-I-P, suffix S. It?s important they say suffix S so that we know that they know it?s not part of the written word.
Thanks for tuning in.
