How to Create a Dropdown Menu in WordPress
Informational Technology
Hello viewers, this Mario from code up, and today I show you how to create a dropdown menu in WordPress. As you can see on the code up site, we have a few dropdowns. It helps us declutter our navigation and improve the user experience by making it easy for users to find what they need. You can break your site menu into a few categories and then create subcategories for those. So without further ado, let's dive in and create a dropdown menu in WordPress. So the first thing you need to do is head over to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to appearance and then menus. From here, click create a new menu if you're creating a menu for the first time. If you already have a menu, you'll edit it over here. Since we are creating a menu for the first time, we'll give a menu a name. And this name is only for us, so we can manage things on the back end. We can name it anything we want, as it won't be displayed to the site visitor. The next thing we need to do is choose a location for our menu. The number of locations that appear here depends on the theme you're using. As every theme offers different theme locations. So we want this menu to be our primary menu that appears on the top part of the web page. So we'll choose primary menu here, and save menu. Next, we'll add some menu items to the menu we have created. Here we have a few options. We can choose from pages, post, custom links, and categories. The pages tab displays all the pages we have created on our site, the post tab displays all the pose, and do custom links we can add a custom URL and custom link text. The categories tab, displays all the categories we have created. So for example, I went in about a link in our menu, but I don't want that link to point anywhere. I want my two pages about our company and our story to appear underneath in a dropdown menu. So what I'll do is use this custom links tab and create an empty about link. I'll add a hashtag in the URL field, so it doesn't take the user anywhere. Click add to menu. Now I'll use the pages tab to add these two pages about our company and our story. To my menu. Here they go. Now, what I'll do is just drag these two pages underneath the about us. So when I'm dragging, I can see this outline indentation. I'll just drop it here. The same goes for the other one. And that's it. My clean and clear dropdown menu is ready. I click save menu, and we'll see how it looks like from the front end. Here, you can see our about us link. Even when I try clicking on it, it won't take me anywhere. But you can see this neat and clean dropdown that shows the links to our two pages.
