Tutorial on how to create a QR code
Hey everyone, this is Patrick with the tutorial on how to set up your remind sign up numbers into a QR code so parents and students can sign up a lot easier than having to type in the phone number and class code that you have to give them. First thing we're going to start with is open up a browser and logging into remind. So find dot com used to be remind one O one, but they changed the name over the summer. Click on sign in, sign in with your email address and password. Once you get signed in on the left hand side, you'll notice that you have your classes listed, choose whichever class you're going to work with. In this case, I'm going to use science 8. And on the right hand side, you'll see the class code and the number.
This is what your parents normally have to type in in order to sign up for your class. We're going to make it a lot easier for them. What you want to do is copy the number, the phone number, when you go to copy, it's going to pop up this message, just close that down. Right click and copy the number. If you want, you can hand write it down. That's fine too. Then we're going to go back to Google, and we want to search for a QR code generator. So type in QR code generator, and you'll get a huge list. We only want to look at number three. I like number three the best you can try the other ones. Number three is the QR code generator dot com. Click on that to open up the code generator. Because remind works through text messages, we want to go ahead and choose SMS.
That means text message. In the number field we want to right click and paste that phone number that we just copied. And every time you paste something in here, you'll notice the QR code will change. We're going to go back to remind so that we can get the message, which is going to be the class code. Highlight the at, as well as whatever your class code is. Right click again, copy. Back to the QR code and paste it into the message section. It changes your QR code one last time. And you're good to go. If you have your cell phone, you go ahead and scan your computer screen and make sure that it's going to sign you up for your remind feed. But what you want to do is make sure that you save this so that you can access it again and again and again without having to remake it. When it pops up with your save dialog, you want to change choose a file name that matches your class that way if you have multiple classes you can keep up with a different one.
So I use science 8 since that's what the class is called and remind. I click on save and then okay, and it automatically saves the file in my download folder. So if I wanted to open it up, I could just choose science 8. And there will be the same QR code that I generated on the web page. This makes life a lot easier for your parents. On meet the teacher night, you can simply post a couple of these around your room with a message that says scan this with a QR code reader, and you'll be signed up for my remind one O one feed. If you want, you can even paste this onto your syllabus so that parents can scan this instead of having to type in the number as well. It makes it a lot easier for them, which of course makes things a lot easier for you. Thanks for watching this tutorial. Hopefully you'll be able to set up your remind into a QR code, so that your meet the teacher night can go a lot easier.
