iTalki for Foreign Language Students
High School / Foreign Languages
I talkie is a social networking site that assists people in learning languages. It would be great for students studying a foreign language or for ESL students. The first step is to create your profile. You will fill out a form which asks you what language you are speaking, and what country you are from. You have the ability to add additional information such as your age, hobbies, or even upload a photo. You must be aged 13 and up to use this website. Once your profile is created, you can find language partners by browsing others profiles. So I'm going to go up here to the language partners tab. And when I click on that, here it says the results are over 500 members. Now I can narrow this down by the links that the partner speaks. And the language that they're learning. I can also search by location and limit by age. So there's under 18, 18 to 25 and et cetera. You can also search by gender. You also have the option to find language instructors. So here's the marketplace, and I am going to go to language teachers. This would be a great resource for students who need additional tutoring assistance from a professional. It will give you their hourly rate and a little bit about each instructor. And again, just like when you browse for a partner, you can see what language that they instructor teaches. And also which language they speak. There's also language courses that you can purchase, and various language products. Here we have various sessions of tutoring there are other areas on the website that students can explore. There's an answers area. And if students have a particular question, they can ask it to all the members. There's also a notebook. So this is your personal notebook, you can write in the language that you are learning and get helpful corrections from native speakers. However, students need to keep in mind this is public. So they need to be careful of the things that they share in their notebook. Additionally, there is a resources section. This has online translation dictionaries and other educational materials. So let's just choose Italian. And here it's coming up with 90 resources. Here's an Italian gram or tutorial. Different lullabies, and things that students can use to practice their new language. For students struggling in a foreign language course, ESL students, or even those studying another language as a hobby, this is a fantastic resource that will give them the real-life practice scenarios they need to succeed.
