Learning Noun-Adjective agreement in Spanish
This is a short narrated lesson on nouns and adjectives because people confuse this all the time. In Spanish, nouns are either masculine or feminine, okay? They come with articles. In front of them. If it's masculine, it's gonna have L or own. If it's feminine, it's gonna have law or una. Okay? So, for example, let's use the words. And. That dog. Okay? And love pina. All right? Is masculine? All right? We know it because it has an all in front of it, but we also know it because of what it ends with. Okay?
La pina, feminina, because it ends in an a, okay? So what the word ends with is a good indicator of if it's going to be masculine or feminine if these articles are not with it, okay? So when we have a noun in Spanish and then we have an adjective that we want to use to describe it. We are going to put the adjective after the now. Okay? In English, we would say the small cat. With the adjective first, then Spanish were going to put it after, okay? This is a big, giant difference from English, and people confuse it all the time. Okay. Now, if I want to say this small pineapple. I'm also going to put it after, okay? Notice here.
That I have changed the ending of the adjective to match the noun. Okay? So we change our adjective to match the noun. All right? So when I say that adjectives and nouns need to match in gender number, it basically just means that the singular and plural. Aspect needs to be the same in the masculine and feminine aspect needs to be the same. So we can have any got to pick any. And then we can also have laws, that can use. Okay? So this has to be masculine and and plural because this is masculine and plural. Masculine singular masculine singular masculine singular.
Then I'm gonna have feminine singular. And then feminine plural. Okay. So, when I say matching and gender number, it means it's masculine or feminine, singular or plural. And whatever you're describing, it matches and carries it throughout. All right? Thanks.
