Ever wonder what happens to a TV signal after the station airs it? I always did....and maybe I'm not the only one! It's fascinating!
Welcome to episode four. Where do TV signals go after they air? This is Tony Boy and remember to subscribe to my channel.
Maybe you?ve never thought about this. Where does the TV signal go after it airs? A TV camera turns a picture and sound into a signal. A TV transmitter sends that signal through the air. You TV grabs that signal and converts it back to picture and sound. But what happens to the signal after that? Does it go floating around the Earth for eternity hoping that a television will somehow pick it up? What happens to the singal?
Just relax let me explain. Guglielmo Marconi sent out the first radio waves in 1895 and they went hurtling into space at the speed of light. That was over 120 years ago so that signal has already gone past over one thousand stars. Anyone out in deep space with a good receiver would be able to listen to it.
Many of our TV signals has also left our solar system. TV shows from the 1950 would just be reaching the star Pegasi. So if there are aliens living near that area they are more than likely eagerly awaiting the first episodes of I Love Lucy.
In April 2009 something amazing happened. The BBC?s webpage reported that a radio astronomer have made a remarkable discovery. He had picked up television signals from fifty years ago. He thought the TV signals probably were bouncing off a meteor twenty five light years away and then returning to Earth. He said the video signals were remarkably clear and that he?d recover about seven weeks of old television programs including long lost episodes of the Doctor Who show.
Many people were ecstatic at the reality of recovering some television history. It was soon revealed that it had all been a hoax. The BBC website was a fake. It has publishes this fake news on April first. Hilarious.
Well I hope you learned a little bit about television signals today. Thank you so much for watching this episode of I Did Not Know That. If you do like it please remember to subscribe and to share.
