Co-op Cut Up SDAIE Strategy
Elementary / Language Arts / Reading
This is a SDAIE strategy that can be used as a pre-reading strategy. A text (book, document, article, etc) is cut up and students are given 3-5 pieces of paper at a time. Students are to work together to find out everything they can about the piece of text you are working with in class. Throughout the activity, the teacher only needs to tell students two things: (1) GOAL: Find out everything you can about the text, (2) RULE: You may only have 3-5 pieces of paper at a time. This strategy is engaging for students because they are asked to find out about a book, article or document that they don't know much about. After they have found out everything they can, the teacher may lead a discussion or ask students to work in groups in order to make a prediction about the text.
