Annotation

This lesson introduces the techniques of annotation. The class was working through the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, and in class we worked through chapter 4 together. The students learned what to look for as far as vocabulary, literary devices, and thematic development. The point of the lesson was to show that even the smallest details of a work of literature can display the "big picture." The students worked through chapter 6 independently.
