Teaching the Paris attacks 11/13/15 (and Beirut and Baghdad)

Right after the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, a fellow social studies teacher asked me "How do I handle this? How do we teach about this and still fight racism?" This video is my attempt to answer. It's about the all-too-human practice of dividing the world into 'us' and 'them'. This video is about Paris, and also similar attacks that occurred in the same 24 hour period in Beirut and Baghdad. This is not a lesson. It's thoughts on themes to develop. It's ways to answer when students ask hard questions, or start to fall into the trap of a geographic us vs. them.
