Three Branches of Government
High School / Social Studies / Civics
This is the engagement portion of a civics lesson on the structure of U.S. government. This is an intermediate level ESOL class of adult learners. They are discussing certain aspects of what the government is like in their home countries, and how power is divided up. We are comparing these aspects to how the government is set up in the United States. Students are examining pictures and pulling some details about the three branches of governments from their handouts, and I am recording some of what they are saying on the board. Students are connecting their understanding of government to the new information they are learning about the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
