Portfolios in the Classroom
High School / Science / Chemistry
The purpose of this video is to share information I have experimented this year with concerning portfolios in the classroom. The intended audience is for middle school teachers but can be modified to work with elementary and high school ages. The way I conduct portfolios make it student-centered by putting control in the hands of the students. It allows for active learning to take place because students are engaged in the material for a longer period of time, they are thinking about the content deeper through reflections, expanding upon content, and transferring their learning to new and different situations. The portfolios also work as a means of formative assessment for teachers as they collect feedback on various assignments over the course of a unit.
