In addition to practicing their speaking skills during this assignment, students practiced their listening skills by filling out feedback forms, writing at least one thing they learned about each classmate during each "How To" presentation and stating one thing that might have made each presentation even stronger. The assignment was to describe to the class how to do something in such a way that the speech communicates something about yourself. During last summer's Connected Learning MOOC (sponsored by the National Writing Project), we introduced ourselves to each other in a similar manner and shared ideas about how this activity might be useful in the classroom. The Learning Target was "I can present information clearly, concisely and logically for the appropriate purpose, audience and task."
